Camille Delean #3 - Daylight / Black Sail

It's hard to believe it's been three and half years since I first mentioned Camille Delean on this blog, a stint living and performing in the UK has come and gone with Camille now finding herself back in her native Canada and after a prolonged period of silence, sharing her music once again.

The two tracks "Daylight" and "Black Sail" remind me what I've been missing. English may be Camille's second language but you'd never guess, she sings with such perfect tone and heart-breaking beauty. "Black Sail" is stunning. A wistful melancholy dominates as peaceful, languid guitar shimmers and restrained percussion combine with Camille's folknoir vocals to serenade with soul-touching results.

As perhaps the titles dictate, "Daylight" is brighter and more optimistic with vocals full of an timeless grace and assured tenderness whilst the tracks rich instrumentation sweeps you off the feet. I'm not sure what the current plans are further down the line but it's certainly good to have you back Camille.

The videos which accompany the two tracks are perfect too, coupling the feeling of space and beauty with such stunning clarity.

Camille Delean #2 - Roads of Empty EP

When I did an 'Introducing' piece on the extraordinary young talent that is Camille Delean I mentioned that there weren't any releases to purchase, that's now changed because you can down purchase her debut four track EP 'Roads of Empty' via iTunes.

I won't repeat my earlier post, read that for my typically waffling thoughts but you should take this post as a prompt for you to discover Camille, her beautiful soulful voice is just too beautiful for words.

You can trust me when I saw you won't be disappointed if you listen to her EP. I believe Camille is moving to London soon, hopefully that means live shows aplenty. Now Rachel Sermanni and Camille in the same show, let's make that happen.

Camille Delean - New Music "Introducing"

I have Anna from Flying with Anna to thank for this one. Her introductory paragraph was this:

"This is maybe my favourite thing on this list, Camille Delean’s beautiful voice and gentle melodies are a treat for the ears..."

That was enough for me to investigate Camille's music further, I'm glad I did. Although I don't know a great deal about Camille just yet, you can hear three songs on her Myspace. To date, Camille has no release (I'd put out a 7" for you tomorrow!) nor is there ability to download any track other than the demo below. That has to change too!

Camille has a strikingly beautiful voice, of that there can be no doubt, it will instantly grab you and demands attention. There is a country twang throughout but I'd certainly file Camille as a folk artist instantly on par with so many of the modern folk artists. The gentle, reflective "Tomorrow I Will Leave" is a heart-achingly gorgeous track carried by her wonderful voice and wistful lyrics. "So it Goes" is equally impressive, built around a melodic, gentle guitar and steel-pedal, it's simply stunning.

The same praise could be directed towards "Rivers" which has a more traditional  melancholic folk and less of the 'Nashville' sound. I personally am I love with all of these tracks. If you like your folk too then I think we might have just found your new favourite artist.

If you are at a loose end on Wednesday (19th Jan) Camille is one of the acts playing at The Queen's Head. Wednesday gigs are a non-starter for me so I'll have to wait for a return, they'll be many.
