The Easter break is finally with us (or nearly with you, depending on your time-zone) so what better way of getting in the mood for four days off (assuming you work, I always think the demographic of this blog is of a similar age to me) than with The Pains of Being Pure at Heart.

Kip Berman and co have long perfected a carefree approach to indie-pop which results in a guaranteed smile-on-your-face listen which is perfectly encapsulated in the title of their forthcoming third LP Days of Abandon (due in the UK in June via Fierce Panda) and their latest track "Eurydice" is no different. It's not going to convert any nay-sayers but propelled by spritely percussion and shimmering guitar textures the track bristles with excitement against boy-girl vocals and warming, optimistic melody, basically the sort of song made for singing aloud to.

With this post I'll wish a Happy Easter to you all. I'm taking a couple days off from the blog to spend some real time with my family but they'll be a couple of pre-writes to follow and make it look like I'm still here....

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart have always been one of my go-to artists on my iPod, usually in the gym when looking for some fast-paced, high energy inspiration whilst running. Their 2009 debut and follow-up Belong being exactly that, toe-tapping carefree goodness (the only problems tend to be when you start singing along with people running either side of you).

Kip Berman and gang now return with "Simple and Sure", the first track to be taken from their forthcoming third album Days of Abandon and indie-poppers fear not, you'll be glad to know it's a return full of pure-pop wonder.

The title is perfect too, summing up the tracks intentions immediately, a slice of magical, up-lifting pop heaven with jangly guitars, sprightly drums and perhaps more obvious here, shining keys combining to melodious and delightful results, going straight for the jugular, if "Simple and Sure" doesn't have you dancing all around your room then nothing will.

Days of Abandon is due for release in the US April 22nd with a tour alongside the equally great Fear of Men. I'll update this with a UK release (and hopefully tour dates) when I find them.

Following the release of their eponymous pop debut in 2009, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart return (although with two singles and an EP since I can't say I felt they disappeared! - no bad thing) with a new single and album. 'Belong' is out on March 28th via Fortuna Pop! Tracklisting and Pre-order details can be found here.

After the band’s European tour which involves a date at King’s College, London on March 3rd. I'm racking my brain because I think I'm busy that day, but I can't find any evidence of it so I may well be present - their last London show at 229 was probably the best I've seen the band.

The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart #2 - New Single and London Show

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart certainly know the recipe to make a toe-tappingly good three minute pop song, they released an album full of them just last year and have now come up trumps again with new song "Heart in Your Heartbreak" which comes out on December 13 before their second album due in March next year.

A great follow on to their last "Say No to Love" if not quite in the same league as "This Love is Fucking Right"... It features (of course) shimmering guitar lines, catchy pop hooks and Kip's exquisite vocal delivery, it's certainly not going to lose them any fans.

The Pains play the 229 venue in Portland Street on December 2nd. It'll be grand. Come along.

One of the albums of last year the self titled Pains of Being Pure at Heart LP (buy it here) was a joy from start to finish. It's fuzzy melodic pop songs were a treat and This Love is Fucking Right just a fantastic song. I finally saw them live last week at was impressed with their performance, if a little on the short side.

Hopefully that will soon change with their second album due out late this year I believe...
