Father/Sculptor #3 - Lowlands

A long overdue catch up with Father/Sculptor now, it's been about a year since I last mentioned the Glasgow quintet after their early demos impressed me with powerful and emotive soundscapes awash with marvellous guitars, clever lyrics and fantastic atmosphere now they return to this little blog with their best track yet, the stunning "Lowlands", the lead track from their debut EP Faith & Violence which is released next week (and is available on digital/vinyl via bandcamp).

The track swoons with raw emotion and a knock-out vocal delivery, where brooding guitar textures compliment the elegant melody on this sexually charged wonder - you might not want to watch the video below at work - also taken from the EP is "Sault", a track which immediately sounds brighter than anything Father Sculptor have released before with calypso rhythms and big drum beats, listen carefully though and amongst the glorious, bouncing groove are moody lyrics and vocals that fill the air with a darker, dramatic mood.

Father Sculptor #2 - Blue

Last month I introduced Father Sculptor, a Glasgow based group who rendered me speechless with their debut track release, "Ember". Tomorrow (April 16th) sees that track made available via bandcamp for free download alongside a new track "Blue", which is where my attention falls today...

"Blue" continues to raise its cap towards the 1980's, the shimmering intro sets the tone for the dramatic and emotive soundscapes to follow, awash with marvellous guitars, clever lyrics and fantastic atmosphere it's the smooth, clear vocals that steal the show. Oozing with confidence and style, majestic and theatrical "Blue", like "Ember" before it, is a track that confirms Father Sculptor to be one of Scotland's hot prospects. Make sure you grab the single tomorrow.

Father Sculptor - New Music "Introducing"

Father Sculptor are currently keeping their 'details' cards close to their chests, a brief biography on their soundcloud page reveal their location to be Glasgow coupled with cryptic details of their beings, either way, it hardly matters to me, this blog isn't entitled 'Just Band Members Details I Like', all I care about the music and it is safe to say that Father Sculptors' early showings are quite something..

Their debut release "Ember" is due to be released on April 16th via bandcamp coupled with an as yet unheard track "Blue", simply put it induces all kinds of goosebumps.

Patiently building around moody soundscapes, shimmering guitars and metronomic rat-a-tat beats it takes over a minute for the vocals to finally enter and once they do, they utterly floor you. Soft and poetic, 'Mr As-yet-unknown' has this wonderfully smooth vocal style and powerful lyrical prowess that gives a few nods towards some 80's indie acts and even though it's a bit presumptuous to say already, "Ember" could just be the birth of a word-smith to give Morrissey a run for his money, there is something overwhelmingly beautiful about the track as it struggles to be set free, let it take you too.

Earlier track "Velvet Falls" is equally impressive, though wholly different, strong and dramatic instrumentation sweeps the track along in almost euphoric, anthemic way (sorry to use 'that' word, this isn't Coldplay). Whatever it is, however you want to describe it, it is absolutely fucking brilliant.

Father Sculptor played their first gig supporting Spector in February, more shows are surely to follow, come play in (London's) Capital.
