Half Waif - New Music "Introducing"

Facebook / halfwaif.com/

I'm back with you after four days up north though hopefully you didn't notice I was away thanks to the wonder of some pre-writes... The first 'fresh' post since my return is this beauty by Half Waif, the project of Nandi Rose Plunkett from Brooklyn, expanded to a trio with their recently released debut EP Future Joys - available via Bandcamp now.

"Wooden Horse", the lead track is completely swoon-some, intoxicating around your heartstrings from the outset with sparkling, kaleidoscopic soundscapes and dramatic, swooping vocals. With ethereal grace Nandi's gorgeous butterfly soft vocals sweep in perfect harmony with the shimmering melody whilst darker psychedelic undercurrents lie underneath. The results is one that is overwhelming gorgeous but also enough to keep you right on the edge.

The rest of the EP equally impresses, "Eyes Are Closed" is similarly atmospheric and rich, it reminds me of follow Brooklyn band SoftSpot as it blossoms around the fusion of bright keys, imposing drums and Nandi's luxurious vocals whilst closing track "Slender is the Throat" is the most haunting and mysterious of the lot (as the title may suggest), all beautiful choral vocals and twinkling, echoey instrumentation. A new band is found.
