Los Angeles based (but Copenhagen born) Majken came to my attention through the wonderful, should-be pop hit "Dreaming of Franco", the first track from her debut EP Deronda Hotel which is available digitally right now via Bandcamp.
A catchy, infectious beauty that will have you bopping your head in agreement with the rumbling, rat-a-tat beats and fuzzed up guitar rhythms, the theme is one that that stays throughout much of the release with "Fainted Love" combining a Lykke Li esque breathy vocal with jangly and vaguely psychedelic guitars that come somewhere between Widowspeak and any number of late 70's groups.
"Where it All Beings" is full of syrupy, nostalgic daydreams whilst "Madness" and "No Man's Land" both change things with a darker, languid melody all shrouded in hazy, haunting moodiness and seductive, sweetly romantic harmonies.
It's all comes together perfectly and creates a debut EP of mystical, gorgeous intent from a new name to keep more than an eye on.
