Neue York - New Music "Introducing"

neueyork.co.uk

Neue York are a newly formed trio whom I believe are from the same county as me, Hertfordshire (I've also read London but then I saw I'm from London too). They only went live with this project last week and have already been picked up by a couple of good new band indicators blogs (Neu Magazine and Gold Flake Paint to name but two), after taking a listen to their debut tracks it's easy to see why...

"Silence" is stunning. Opening with repeating choral ooh's that add a haunting, melodramatic ambiance before buzzing synthline and restrained percussion enter amongst brooding dual vocals, the result is a darkly-tinged thing of real beauty. The other track "Older" is perhaps even better. A sparser, deeper affair that combines spacious, electronic textures, perfectly-placed horns and shimmering guitars with a gorgeously rich lead vocal that leaves you craving oh so much more. The early-days announcements calling Neue York this years' London Grammar may not be too far off the mark...
