I mentioned in my album review / Introducing piece on Chelsea Wolfe back in April that her second album was due later this year, it now has been annouced, Ἀποκάλυψις (pronounced “Apokalypsis”) is set to be released 23rd August via Pendu Sound and follows from her debut released right at the end of 2011 (too late to make any best of lists which is a shame as it means it has slipped by many people's attention).
We've now been treated to two tasters of the forthcoming album "Mer" and "Wasteland", the latter continuing very much where the excellent "The Grime and The Glow" left-off with compelling and beautifully haunting sounds. Its dark and distorted organ intro gives clear intent whilst a gentle drum machine beats and a windy sound create an intense, otherworldly ambience all wrapped around Chelsea's ethereal whispers.
"Mer" has a moody and hypnotic percussive beat and creepy guitar line running through it while the poetic lyrics lulling away any sense of gloom, Chelsea's experimental noise-pop leaves chills running through your body and if she isn't one of 2011's break-out artists then something is very wrong indeed.
She returns to Europe in August with some UK dates promised, I'll let you know what they are.
